Sojourn Sling Petunia Pickle Bottom

Have you heard of Petunia Pickle Bottom? If no, then you will really want to pay close attention.  Petunia Pickle Bottom is mostly known for their chic bags. They offer a variety of style of bags anything from small clutch to a weekender style in designs that you can’t pass up.

But we want to give you a heads up on something else that they offer, sojourn slings. That’s right they have given parents like you a chance to experience their chic designs and custom products in a baby sling.  Sojourn slings by Petunia Pickle Bottom offer every parent a way to cuddle up close to their little newborn and enjoy their every coo.

So why would you get the sojourn sling over some other brand, well, honestly that is something you need to decide for your self. We just want to show you why this sling is a great choice and what you will love about it.

Its an innovative pouch style sling that is going to give parents and child a comfort and versatility  they are looking for. The baby sling is made to fit snug for a secure hold on your baby. Its also made with a curved base seam and tapered shoulders which allows for a more comfortable placement for your baby. And its a lot less bulky. You can use this sling up to 25 pounds but its more likely that you will want to use it for smaller babies and maybe not heavy toddlers. But its your choice and if its still comfortable for you to use the sling up to 25 pounds and your child is still enjoying it. Then Go for it!

Each sling features a reversible print on slightly stretchy 100% organic cotton so you don’t have to worry about any synthetic materials rubbing on your little angels face. No more weird prints that will be out of style in 6 months or that are so plain that you feel bored wearing it. With each chic designs you will be the talk of the neighborhood with the stylish sling.

The Petunia Pickle Bottom sojourn sling is not a one size fits all sling. The sling comes in different sizes so that your sling will fit snugly to your body. When using the sling you may feel the need in keeping one hand on the sling and around your baby. So this will not give you the 100% hands free feeling like other wraps or carriers.

So parents you know a little about the sojourn sling by Petunia Pickle Bottom. Its a sling that is suggested to be used right from birth to help your newborn get use to it. And it might take time for both parties to feel comfortable. But once this happens you will love that  the carrier is quick and easy to put on and use. No dealing with any ties, buckles or a complicated technique for tying it. Simple slip it over your head and your little one can be safely put in and comfortable with one of your hands cradling them for the extra support and security. We suggest that you do keep a hand on your baby at all times for when they decide to stretch or lean forward.  Keep them safe. If the sojourn is for you then have fun picking the pattern that you love and know that your stylish every step of the way.

Baby wraps: Different ways to use them

There is a reason that baby wraps are so long, it’s so adults of any size can use the wrap without worrying about adjustments to straps or getting the “right size”.  This also is great if one parent is shorter than the other so when the carrier is used by either parent there is not need for adjustments. You just tie the wrap on and go!

The CuddleWrap in one such wrap. It’s long but offers the same great hassle free one size fits most and there are no adjustments required.  With the cuddly wrap you have some great benefits that go along with it, like you can use the wrap as long as your still comfortable. Meaning, if your baby/toddler is 30 lbs and its still comfortable for you to hold your child in the wrap, then go for it. But please remember, if you feel strain in your back its probably not a good idea to continue using your baby wrap.

Ergonomically the wrap is wonderful. The way it distributes the weight when properly worn  helps so you don’t  feel a strain or pressure in one place on your back.  The baby will also have the support they need for their spine from the first time you use the wrap.

So here are the different ways you can use the cuddlywrap. Remember,  that as your using the cuddlywrap that you still be aware of your child and their needs. You should always be able to see their mouth and nose and insure that it is not pushed against you or the fabric. Also be sure that your baby’s chin is not pushed against his/her chest. One position may not work for your child and adjustments will want to be made.

Modified Cradle Position – This is a great hold for newborn/premature babies that need that extra support for their heads and body. When you use this hold instead of the classic hold you will make sure that your baby’s head is being support by the pocket near your shoulder but still has their face pointing towards you so you can see their mouth and nose. They should not be pressed against the inside of the fabric or against your body.

Classic Cuddle Position – Offering the same closeness as the modified cradle position but your babies head is not supported by the pocket unless they fall asleep. If your child falls asleep then you will want to use the side of the wrap that is closest to their head and gently pull it over their head to give them support while sleeping. Remember, that the wrap should only be pulled enough to support  their head but still keep their face visible and their mouth and nose clear.

The classic cuddle position is also great as your child gets older so they can still face you but turn some to see the world around them. Their arms can also be somewhat free for reaching things.

Facing out is always a fun thing for your baby or toddler. They can explore the world around them from your level and be safe. The facing out hold always their arms to be free to touch and feel things or tucked in if they are just content watching what your doing.

For breastfeeding mothers you will love to hear that your baby can be nursed in the cuddlywrap. This is going to be an easier process with babies that are more experienced with nursing but you can still nurse with newborns as well. Just be sure to be patient in the process and if you find it easier to hold your baby in the football or cross-cradle hold the you can keep the wrap on, gently remove your baby from the wrap and slide the wrap over without removing it. This will allow you to breastfeed and not have to untie and retie your wrap.

Organic Baby Products – Are they Really Better?

There are people out there that believe no matter what, organic is the best option. And others believe it doesn’t really matter and that you are just paying for the title of “organic”. So we wanted to clear the air and explain the benefits of organic to not. But first we want to just say, that whatever you feel comfortable with is the best for you!

Organic by definition means: noting or pertaining to a class of chemical compounds that formerly comprised only those existing in or derived from plants or animals, but that now includes all other compounds of carbon.

When speaking about organic food, it seems pretty easy that you would want food that has not been fertilized by chemicals but that it’s in it’s natural state of becoming ripe or eating food that is grown and not processed. When speaking of products such as clothes, jewelry and baby gear you may become a little fuzzy on how these products can be organic.

With organic baby products the manufacturers will focus on using natural dyes  to color the clothing, or natural fibers instead of something that has been processed with chemicals to make it soft, durable, lightweight, breathable, etc…

Some great organic products that we’d like to point out are Organic Belle Baby Carriers. They are made from 100% cotton and hemp blended fabrics. The inside liner of their organic carriers are 100% Organic cotton and hemp blended un-dyed, ultra-soft fleece in a natural off-white color. All the parts that rub against your baby’s skin is soft so its less likely to cause irritation after being worn for extended periods of time. The organic belle baby carrier option also makes the carrier more breathable for baby and parent.

Sage Creek Organics clothing, bedding & sleepwear is made from organic materials. If you don’t want to worry about your new baby being cuddle up in a blanket that has been treated with pesticides and harsh chemicals then you would definitely want to go with an organic option like Sage Creek bedding. They offer pure comfort and softness in every one of their jersey organic cotton crib sheets and blankets.

Baby Shampoo by GAIA Skin Naturals provides a shampoo for babies that is soap and sulphate free.  An extremely mild gel that gently cleanses the hair and scalp without stripping baby’s natural protective oils. Certified Organic Chamomile Extract brings out natural highlights leaving baby’s hair soft and shiny. Additional moisturising properties are added to prevent a dry or flaky scalp. pH neutral, low foaming formula.

The last great organic product that we want to point out is the Under the Nile organic toys. These toys are made and stuffed with  the finest 100% organic Egyptian cotton. Safe for babies and kids to chew, suck on and play with.

Organic products definitely have their benefits and you know that when your new baby is chewing on a toy or your toddler has their favorite blanket in their mouth that they are not getting something unnatural. But this doesn’t mean that products that aren’t title organic are bad. They still can be made with 100% cotton, they just aren’t certified as organic.

Direct Contact Carriers

Direct contact carriers give the baby the same feeling as being in the womb. This gives them the comfort of mom’s warmth, heartbeat and closeness that they’re use to. But it also gives them the security of viewing the rest of the world by still being close to mom, dad or even a grandparent.

Maybe your asking yourself, “Why is being close to me important? And how is it any different then just holding the baby?” Well the obvious answer would be because the carrier will give you free hands to do what you need to. And if you have other children that need your attention at the same time, those free hands come in handy.

Your baby is so familiar with being close to you after spending 9 months listening to your heartbeat, feeling your warmth around them like a cozy blanket and going everywhere with you its a big change for them to be in the world outside your womb. But that doesn’t mean the comforts they are use to have to go away so abruptly. With a direct contact carrier there is no material between you and your baby. They are right up next to you and still have a soft fabric on the other side of them.

The organic carrier features organic cotton and hemp blended fabrics with white contrast stitching. The inside liner is a 100% Organic cotton and hemp blended undyed, ultra-soft fleece in a natural off-white color.

The classic belle baby carrier is made from strong upholstery grade black microsuede fabric, accented with a breathable mesh panel. The inside liner is a soft polyester fabric.

So why else would you want to use the direct contact carrier by Belle Baby? It’s simple. Really that’s why its simple, easy to use by yourself. The three strap system can be learned in a matter of seconds with no fuss on getting it right. You have a waist belt that is padded for your comfort and supports the weight on your hips instead of making your shoulders do all the work. It is secured around your waist with a simple buckle that is pulled tight. Then you have the two crossover straps that hold your baby in a natural ergonomic position that supports the developing spine. This are simple crossed over the baby one at a time and buckled into nylon buckles that are the same materials found on high-end mountaineering backpacks.

With the head support the is detachable you can give you newborn babies head the support needed while they are developing the muscles needed to hold it on their own. Once strong enough to hold their own head, you can detach the head support and turn them around for a whole new world to see! They will love this.

PhD Not Necessary
Anne W. said, “I just wanted to share my thanks for such a wonderful product. I have tried two other baby carriers and were so frustrated with all of the fabric (baby sling) and misc snaps, buckles, and zippers. I felt like I needed a PhD in baby wearing to put the product on and situate the baby correctly. Within three minutes of opening the belle box I was carrying my 7 week old around the house. I love the simplicity!! And the fabric is lovely. It is so snuggly my little one rubs his cheek against the inner lining and goes right to sleep. What a great product!
Live & Learn – The Belle is Best
Andrea M. said, “I got my Belle Carrier and am SO glad I purchased it. Oh my gosh, it’s incredible! This is my third carrier and was a little nervous spending MORE money on ANOTHER carrier…but I’m glad I did. It is SO comfortable, it’s almost hard to believe. Compared to the carrier I’ve been using, it’s hard to believe they are even the same concept, it is such a MAJOR difference in comfort. I also have a larger carrier which I do like but that is more for hikes and longer excursions due to its bulk and the fact that the baby can’t face out. My daughter is almost 8 months so she really likes to see the world…and we have gone on numerous errands, water the garden daily, and she “helps” me with laundry and vacuuming. She loves it. Every time she sees me strap it around my waist she gets noticeably excited or calms down if she’s fussing.

I’ll be honest with you – if there was a place that I could have tried ALL carriers on I would have only purchased this one. Live and learn! Thanks for a great product – it makes me want to get another one! LOL!”

You can see that there are many wonderful benefits from using any kind of carrier but with the direct contact carrier you are close to your baby while still being able to do all the things you need to. Your baby will love the bundled feeling and you’ll enjoy using your carrier for a newborn and older for where ever you may go.

Why use a Framed Backpack Carrier?

Well first of all let us just point out that the kokopax framed backpack carrier designs are chic and fun all in one! The patterns offer a variety of styles that everyone can find something they LOVE. But besides be cute, the fabric is durable. Made from fabric that is easy to clean, which is a must have for any parent and is 100% cotton canvas. The eco-classic carrier fabric is printed using a combination of Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 and GOTS certified dyes so you know that it is extra safe for you sweet little baby!

Here is a little education on what Oeko-Tex Standard 100 means: it is the most important certificate for testing of textiles for harmful substances. This label indicates safety for skin-friendly clothing and other textiles. (

And here is that GOTS certified dyes mean: The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers worldwide. It defines high level environmental criteria along the entire supply chain of organic textiles and requires compliance with social criteria as well. (

Another great benefit of the kokopax carrier is the anodized aluminum lightweight frame that provides parents with a comfortable way to take their child anywhere they go. The frame is also adjustable to fit individual users. So if you are 5’3″ and your partner is 6′, you don’t need to worry. You both can where the carrier without discomfort.

Some of the other great qualities of the baby carrier are the comfortable shoulder straps that wont dig into your shoulders, padded waist support, and a hip belt for added comfort. This helps keep the carrier in place and distributes the weight evenly on your back.

We wanted to share some great testimonials of those that have tried the Kokopax Carriers:

Ima M. said, “I can’t imagine life without kokopax. I wish I had it when I had my 1st and 2nd baby. It has made life a million times easier whether we are at the park, at a store or just trying to clean up or cook around the house. Seeger is so comfortable and happy when he is in the kokopax. He is able to see everything and watch his brothers play. When he gets tired he just puts his little head down on the pillow rest and takes a nap. Really, how great is that! My husband plays soccer with the boys and Seeger is tickled to participate with his Daddy holding him in the kokopax. Our quality of life has blossomed because he can travel anywhere with us and is perfectly content. We are so happy to have a kokopax backpack.”

Tamara O. with triplets said,  “kokopax baby backpack has given me the freedom to venture out with my children without help. I can push the double stroller and still have the third child safe and happy. I could never do that before because I didn’t like the triple strollers (too big) and I don’t always have someone to push the third baby.

I can also get dinner made in a reasonable amount of time. As you can imagine with three babies, one is almost always unhappy when I need to be in the kitchen. With the kokopax, I can always make at least one baby happy!

The kokopax carrier is a great way to have your little one involved in your daily life while still giving you the freedom of two hands. The comfort of the carrier for both you and your baby makes it a win, win!   It’s a product that has been tried, tested and is  parent approved!

Baby Carriers and Baby Slings

Baby wraps and baby carriers are great for keeping your baby close while still getting things done.

There are a lot of great products available from Around My Baby, but it can be difficult to know which one is best for you. If you’re looking for a good, comfortable product to help you get things done while still carrying your baby around, we have plenty for you to choose from. Here are a few things to know if you’re trying to decide whether to get a baby carrier or a baby wrap.

Baby Carriers
Baby carriers are popular products because they are comfortable and easy to learn to use. They offer some versatility in how you carry your baby, though not as much as a baby wrap offers. They are designed to be comfortable for both you and your baby, and they come in trendy designs.

Once you’ve used your baby carrier a time or two, it is easy to put on and take off. They are designed for the express purpose of helping parents securely carry their babies without tying up their hands, so you can be assured that you are using them correctly and that you and your baby are safe and comfortable.

Baby Wraps
Baby wraps are generally more versatile than baby carriers because you can tie them in many different ways to carry your baby in different positions. A baby carrier usually limits carrying positions to one or two, but wraps allow you to tie it in dozens of ways to accommodate your growing baby.

However, with this versatility comes a sharp learning curve. In order to make sure your baby is safe and a certain position is comfortable, you have to learn exactly how to tie the wrap into that particular shape. In this way, it takes a little longer to learn how to use a wrap than a carrier. Many parents feel that’s OK, though, because they aren’t limited by the placement of buckles and straps.

Stay Cool

Do you remember signing yearbooks in high school? I think my favorite thing to write (and least favorite thing to read) was “Stay cool this summer!” Today, that feels like pretty good advice.

There are a lot of fun, wonderful things to love about summer. But it can get really warm for moms and babies alike. It’s difficult to keep yourself nice and cool, but you’re probably more concerned about keeping your baby out of the heat when the temperatures outside (and inside, if you don’t have air conditioning) are getting unbearable. Here are a few ideas.

1. Get wet. If you can get to the pool, jumping in the cool water is a great way to beat the heat. But you don’t have to pay big money to get your baby wet—set up the sprinkler in the backyard and run through it, or even use a little spray bottle. Keep a spray bottle of water in the car while you run errands to spray on your baby and keep her nice and cool.

2. Cut back layers. You might have gotten in the habit of keeping a onesie under your baby’s clothes during the winter, but shedding layers is a great way to stay cool. If your baby is a girl, breezy dresses can reduce weight and keep her cool. If you have a little boy, keep him in lightweight, short-sleeved clothes. This can make a big difference in how cool your baby stays.

3. Keep treats on hand. Who doesn’t love a good popsicle? This summer, make sure you have otter pops, ice cream cones, popsicles, lemonades and other good, frozen treats on hand. Cool down from the inside out and enjoy the sweet tastes of summer at the same time!

4. Reduce direct contact. Use a baby carrier that prevents direct contact between you and Baby, like these from Kokopax. It’s nice to stay cuddled and warm during the winter, but in the hot summer months it’s nice to avoid sharing body heat.

Five Fun Things to Do With Your Baby this Summer

Summer is heating up, and July is already half over! Don’t miss your chance to have serious fun in the sun with your little munchkin. Some popular summer activities are better suited to older children, but there are plenty of things you can do with your baby that both of you will enjoy.

Take a hike. Sometimes all you need is to simply get out in the sunshine. Pack your baby in a carrier, sling or stroller and enjoy the great outdoors together. If you’re worried about sunburn or overheating, take your walk early in the day. You will enjoy getting your blood moving and your baby will love the sights, sounds and smells of summer.

Get in the water. Your little one won’t be swimming laps or taking leaps off the diving board anytime soon, but most public swimming pools have a place for parents to play with their kids. Lather on the sunscreen and spend a summer afternoon splashing around. You’ll both love it.

Create some art. Drawing with sidewalk chalk is a cheap, fun way to spend hot summer days. Leave messages for family members, draw pictures of your favorite things or just scribble on the ground. You won’t have to worry about your baby staying in the lines and she will love learning to use her hands to create something.

Go to a petting zoo. Your growing child loves seeing new things and having new experiences, and petting zoos provide both. Take your little one for a ride to see your local animal neighbors. Help your baby pet the tame animals and let him watch you feed them. These new things will take the humdrum out of summer days at home.

Listen to music. Even though your baby might not have much past musical experience to draw from, she will still love to listen to your favorite tunes. Sing along to the music and dance with your baby. This will be a welcome break from your day and will teach your baby basic music and rhythm skills.

Giveaway Winner Update

Carissa won our Belle Baby Carrier last month, and she’s had plenty of chances to try it out with her little ones. It looks like the baby carrier is a hit! Here’s what she had to say:

(Remember you can still get 10 percent off the Belle Baby Carrier and other products until the end of the month with the code 10off511)

This picture is from my brother's graduation. I needed to haul both my kids into the building and then hike back to the car, but there was nowhere to store a stroller once I was in the building, so my baby carrier was perfect.

Where to begin…I LOVE this baby carrier!

My bruised legs are a thing of the past! The Belle Baby Carrier is about a million steps up from baby’s car seat and better than any other baby carrier I’ve used.

I have owned a baby wrap in the past, but it took a really long time to get my baby in and out. Her weight wasn’t distributed evenly which gave me a lot of back pain, so I never used it.  This baby carrier is completely different! Every piece that touches your body and your baby is very well padded and soft. It has mesh fabric to keep you and baby cool and the criss-cross straps relieve pressure on your back and shoulders. It reminds me a lot of how my baby’s weight is distributed when I’m pregnant, especially when she is facing me.

She has fallen asleep several times in this carrier and the extra attachment for head support is great for keeping her comfortable. It’s awesome for a sick, whiney baby and I think it would be a lifesaver for a mom with a colicky, fussy newborn.

It’s really easy to put on after the first time of adjusting the straps; I’m down to about 20 seconds. And the most important part, my little girl loves the Belle Baby Carrier! Whenever she sees me put in on she squeals! She loves having a bird’s eye view of the world and kicks her legs and laughs almost the whole time–so I think it must be pretty comfortable for her!

It frees up my hands to chase around my toddler and I don’t have to worry about my baby tipping when I bend over or lean to the side; she is completely secure.  My toddler loves that she gets to walk instead of ride in the stroller.

Some of my favorite places to take the Belle Baby Carrier are the park, church, and short trips to the store.  It’s great for those stores that have narrow aisles. Next time I fly I will definitely use my carrier instead of dealing with the stroller hassle. It’s perfect for me because I have two kids and need an extra hand, but I think moms of one will still put some serious miles on it because it’s so convenient and comfy.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about it.  Out of all the baby gadgets; jumpers, walkers, strollers, high chairs, swings, this is probably my very favorite.  In my baby’s mind, it’s probably second only to her binky!

Thanks again!
